Description

This crispy city chicken recipe is golden, crunchy, and comforting, made with tender meat skewered and breaded for a classic old-fashioned dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs pork or chicken breast, cut into chunks
  • Wooden skewers
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Soak wooden skewers in water for 20 minutes.
  2. Thread meat chunks onto skewers.
  3. Prepare three bowls: flour, eggs whisked with milk, and breadcrumbs mixed with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dredge skewered meat in flour.
  5. Dip into egg mixture.
  6. Coat evenly with seasoned breadcrumbs.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  8. Fry skewers until golden brown on all sides.
  9. Reduce heat, cover, and cook for 10–12 minutes until meat is cooked through.
  10. Drain briefly on paper towels.
  11. Serve hot.

Notes

City chicken can also be baked at 190Β°C for 35–40 minutes if preferred. Serve with mashed potatoes or coleslaw.
