French Onion Ground Beef Rice Casserole


Description

A cozy, savory, and ultra-comforting French onion–inspired ground beef and rice casserole loaded with caramelized onion flavor, melty cheese, and hearty beef.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add sliced onion and cook until golden and caramelized.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned; drain excess grease.
  5. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Stir in uncooked rice, beef broth, and French onion soup.
  7. Transfer mixture to a baking dish and cover tightly with foil.
  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until rice is tender.
  9. Remove foil, top with cheese, and bake 10 more minutes until melted.
  10. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Use caramelized onions for deeper flavor. You can substitute Swiss cheese with Gruyère for a classic French onion twist.
