A quick and flavorful chicken shawarma recipe made with warm spices, tender chicken, and a delicious garlic yogurt sauce.

- 1 1/2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts, sliced
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pita bread for serving
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (for sauce)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (for sauce)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and all spices.
- Add sliced chicken and toss to coat.
- Marinate for at least 20 minutes.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook chicken until browned and cooked through, about 6β8 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, and garlic to make the sauce.
- Assemble shawarma with pita, chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
- Drizzle with garlic yogurt sauce.
- Serve warm.
Notes
For extra flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. Serve with pickles or hummus for a traditional touch.
