Easy Chicken Shawarma Recipe


Description

A quick and flavorful chicken shawarma recipe made with warm spices, tender chicken, and a delicious garlic yogurt sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread for serving
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (for sauce)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and all spices.
  2. Add sliced chicken and toss to coat.
  3. Marinate for at least 20 minutes.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Cook chicken until browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, and garlic to make the sauce.
  7. Assemble shawarma with pita, chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
  8. Drizzle with garlic yogurt sauce.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. Serve with pickles or hummus for a traditional touch.
